Lawmakers have agreed to raise the mandatory retirement age for civil servants.
The sub-committee formed under the coordination of Nepali Congress lawmaker Dilendra Prasad Badu submitted its report on the Federal Civil Service Bill to the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, mentioning that a consensus has been reached to gradually raise the mandatory retirement age for government employees.
Currently, the retirement age for civil servants is 58 years.
According to the provision in the bill, the mandatory retirement age will be 58 years and 6 months for the first six months after the Federal Civil Service Act comes into effect. The retirement age will be raised to 59 years and 6 months for a year after that period, and then to 60 years for the subsequent six months.
Although the government had proposed directly raising the retirement age from 58 to 60 years in the bill, the sub-committee held discussions and reached an agreement to increase the retirement age in phases.
The committee is preparing to pass the Federal Civil Service Bill.
