Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has claimed the authoritarianism he warned of in communist government has arrived as the prime minister (PM) speaks on whims and the speaker is hapless.
"Speaker is hapless. The PM speaks whimsically. I had, therefore, said this will happen during communist regime," Deuba said addressing inauguration of the party's national awakening campaign in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
The main opposition leader has called Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara weak and coward, and slammed him for not removing the unparliamentary language used by PM KP Sharma Oli on Wednesday from the House record.
"There has never been as weak and coward speaker in Nepal's parliamentary history," Deuba stressed. "We have seen many speakers but not as weak as the current one."
"I will present answers to the questions ignoring rage, frustrations and feeble expressions," Oli had started to answer questions raised by the lawmakers after his response to the questions raised during discussion on the government's policies and programs at the House of Representatives (HoR) on Tuesday.
Deuba raised questions about the role of Speaker Mahara accusing him of acting against the principle that the opposition should be given a greater say in the parliament. "They say the government is of ruling party, and the House opposition's," he added.
He also repeated his accusation that President Bidya Devi Bhandari acted like the British queen while presenting the government's policies and programs on Friday. "Nepal government was being used once the country became a republic. Why should one say 'my government' in the style of British queen?" he questioned.
