Leader of the Chairman Council of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJP) Rajendra Mahato has expressed doubts about amendment of constitution as per the agreement between CPN and Federal Socialist Forum Nepal (FSFN). He also warned that the issue of constitution amendment should not be compromised in any way.
"It would have been effective if the agitating forces were together on the issue of getting the demands of constitution amendment addressed," Mahato told Setopati. "Constitution amendment is an agenda of agitation. We fear that some may have adopted the policy of divide and rule on that."
Mahato called mention of constitution amendment in the two-point agreement positive but rued the fact that FSFN moved ahead unilaterally on agreement on such an important agenda. "The movement was launched by Madhesi Front including coalition of RJP and FSFN. We could have stronger influence and got the demands addressed if we were united to get the constitution amended as per the demands of movement. There would have been less chance of betrayal," he explained.
He has called the agreement one step forward for Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. "But we fear this agreement may be limited to documents. We wish it will also be implemented," he stated.
He conceded that RJP does not have any problem with the decision of FSFN to join the agreement calling it the party's internal decision. "There is no logic in taking exception on the issue of coalition," he pointed.
CPN Chairman duo KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal, and FSFN Chairman Upendra Yadav had signed a two-point agreement at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar on Monday.
The first point of the agreement states that the demands and agendas raised by the FSFN through agitation will be addressed by amending the constitution through mutual consensus on the basis of interest of the country and people. It also mentions that the works that the government can address can be done through the government's policies.
The second point states that FSFN will join the government on the basis of the agreement
