Leaders of CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) have urged the Election Commission (EC) to immediately announce final results of the House of Representatives (HoR).
Bhim Rawal and Subas Nembang of UML, and Krishna Bahadur Mahara and Barsha Man Pun of Maoist Center, who reached the EC at Bahadur Bhawan Monday afternoon, met Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Ayodhi Prasad Yadav and urged him to announce HoR results soon.
"We urged to announce election results. We said wasting unlimited time by holding the election results does not bode well for future of any institution," UML leader Rawal told media persons after coming out of the meeting. "We also told them that the Constitution did not envision obstruction in formation of new government," he added.
The left alliance leaders claimed that there is a design to push government formation to February by provisioning unnecessarily lengthy time for election of National Assembly, and sought clarification from the EC office-bearers.
Rawal said EC officials after hearing the leaders replied that they will soon announce HoR results after completing necessary process, and EC is for holding National Assembly election as soon as possible.
The left leaders and EC office-bearers including CEC Yadav discussed the issues for almost one and half hours.
Sister organizations of the two parties earlier had met CEC Yadav and submitted memorandum letter demanding announcement of HoR results.
The EC has not announced final results of HoR stating that National Assembly must be formed before announcing final results of HoR.
The EC argues that it can determine how many women each party will have to send to HoR through PR system to ensure one-third of its members in the federal parliament (HoR and National Assembly combined) are women as required bythe Constitution only after completion of the National Assembly election.
The left alliance, however, insists that the EC should announce final results of HoR and pave the way for formation of new government as the National Assembly does not have any role in government formation.
