Federal Socialist Forum Nepal (FSFN) and Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJP) have secured majority in provincial assembly election in Province 2 after forming an electoral alliance with a promise of unification after the election.
But the two parties have yet to discuss about even forming the provincial government, let alone party unification. RJP leaders still say that the party will form a coalition government in Province 2 and eventually unify with FSFN. But FSFN has shown interest in neither government formation or unification.
FSFN Chairman Upendra Yadav told Setopati there has been no discussion on forming government in Province 2. "They have not even appointed provincial chiefs yet. How can we discuss about formation of provincial government?" he asked. "The issue of formation of National Assembly has made the process of government formation more complex," he added.
He revealed that FSFN has not discussed even party unification with RJP. "RJP has not made any formal decision about party unification. We have also not discussed that issue. The six chairmen of RJP have six different opinions. Who should we believe?" he pointed.
FSFN has forged a strategy of allying with the parties that it allies with to form the central government even at the provincial level. "There has been no discussion about formation of the central government. We have this habit of doing everything in the eleventh hour in Nepal. There is no proper system in anything," he stated.
RJP leaders, on the other hand, claim that the people have given the mandate to the two parties to unify and form the provincial government in Province 2. "The people have endorsed RJP-FSFN. The two parties should also unify," Rajendra Mahato of RJP chairman council. "We have unified six parties. We should now unify with FSFN and bring the seven parties together," Mahato added.
He claimed that the two parties should form government in Province 2 as they have majority.
He claimed that the issue of constitution amendment is bigger for RJP than joining the central government. "Our main agenda is constitution amendment. Participation in government comes only after that," he added.
"We will take decision seeing how three big parties CPN-UML, Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN (Maoist Center) move forward."
