CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has advised President Bidhya Devi Bhandari to issue the ordinance about election of the National Assembly on Thursday.
Dahal, who reached the President's Office a day after one-on-one meeting with CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli, has told President Bhandari to issue the ordinance and not allow the current political impasse to continue for long.
"He has urged President Bhandari to not stop the process," Dahal's personal secretary Jokh Bahadur Mahara told Setopati.
The process of formation of the new government will move forward only after the election of National Assembly once the ordinance is issued. Dahal had reached Oli's residence in Balkot on Wednesday and told him that the ordinance should be moved forward.
The current political impasse ensued after the ordinance about National Assembly was stuck with the President's Office for two months.
National Assembly has not been elected in lack of law for its election. The Election Commission (EC) has not been able to ask the parties to send the final list of perons elected to the House of Representatives (HoR) through proportional representation (PR) system in absence of National Assembly.
The EC writes to each party to send the final PR list for HoR in a way to ensure one-third women in the federal parliament after considering the persons elected in the National Assembly and HoR through first-past-the-post (FPTP) system.
UML has been calling the ordinance unconstitutioal. Maoist Center Chairman Dahal, who maintained silence on the ordinance for a long time, had started to speak about it in the recent days.
He had stated that the National Assembly will not be vibrant without NC in Chitwan on Sunday hinting that it should be elected in Single Transferable Vote system as mentioned in the ordinance sent to the President's Office by the government.
UML has been insisiting that National Assembly should be elected through majority system.
NC has been slamming President Bhandari stating that the President does not have authority to stop an ordinance sent by the Cabinet.
Madhes-based parties Federal Socialist Forum Nepal (FSFN) and Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJP)--the only other national parties apart from the big three--have also publicly stated that the National Assembly should be elected through Single Transferable Vote system.
President Bhandari told Dahal in the morning that the left alliance should seek solution for the current political impasse as it secured majority in the election.
