The one-on-one meeting between CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has ended at Balkot Wednesday afternoon.
The two leaders talked for around one and half hours but failed to decide about when to convene the meeting of coordination committee for unification of the two parties and the meeting's agenda.
The two leaders could be seen on the terrce of Oli's residence in Balkot but no one revealed what the leader duo discussed.
Press coordinator of Oli Chetan Adhikari said the two leaders concurred that the current government should pave the way for formation of the new governmet. "But no decision has been taken on the coordination committee meeting," he added.
He revealed that decision on the coordination committee meeting will be taken only after the two leaders hold another round of meeting. "They may probably meet tomorrow for additional discussion on party unification and coordination committee meeting.
The meeting of the coordination committee for unification of the two parties could not be convened with Dahal leaving for Chitwan on Friday and busy in petty programs there. Dahal returned to Kathmandu and was expected to meet Oli Tuesday itself but the meeting could not happen.
UML has grown suspicious due to Dahal’s comments while outside Kathmandu. “We had agreed to take turn to lead the government. I will discuss this issue in the meeting of coordination committee after returning to Kathmandu,” he said in Chitwan.
“UML was thinking about forming the government on its own as election results started to arrive believing that it will get a majority of its own. It started to talk about unification with us only after seeing that Nepali Congress (NC) was getting almost equal votes in proportional representation (PR) system,” he told his cadres in Kawasoti of Nawalparasi.
He then spoke about formation of the National Assembly and the increasing distance with Nepali Congress (NC) in Bhairahawa. He opined that the National Assembly cannot be vibrant without NC. He revealed that he told UML Chairman KP Oli to move forward by taking NC into confidence by ending the dispute about Single Transferable Vote system.
