CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is set to return to Kathmandu
Tuesday even as his absence in Kathmandu has fueled rumors that all is not well in the left alliance.
The meeting of cordination committee for unification of CPN-UML and Maoist Center has not been convened with Dahal outside the capital. The meeting scheduled for
Saturday was canceled in absence of Dahal.
He had gone to Chitwan
on Friday and was scheduled to return
on Saturday. But he stayed in Chitwan citing cancellation of flight. Dahal, who had visited Chitwan to thank voters for getting him elected from Chitwan-3, had also addressed programs in Bhairahawa of Rupandehi and Nawalparasi after that.
"We are scheduled to return
on Tuesday. We have come to Chitwan to thank the voters and were busy in many programs," Dahal's personal secretary Jokh Bahadur Mahara said.
There have been reports in the media raising doubts about the impending party unification while Dahal is outside Kathmandu. He had said there has been agreement with UML to take turn to lead the government while in Chitwan.
Speaking in Chitwan
on Monday, he opined that Nepali Congress (NC) is necessary in the National Assembly. Maoist Center seems flexible toward the Single Transferable Vote system for election of the National Assembly even as NC and UML are polarized over the electoral system for National Assembly.
NC wants the election to be held in Single Transferable Vote as mentioned in the ordinance that is stuck at the President's Office while UML wants it to be held in majority system and has told the President's Office to not issue the ordinance.
Formation of the next government is stalled over the ordinance for election of the National Assembly with the Election Commission expressing inability to announce final results of House of Representatives (HoR) without election of the National Assembly.
