Vice Chairman of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJP) Brijesh Chandra Lal has warned of agitation if fugitive Resham Lal Chaudhary, who won the federal parliamentary election from Tikapur-1 on the party's ticket, were not immediately issued the certificate of victory.
Addressing a program organized by the party's publicity committee of Kailali-1 in Kathmandu on Friday, he reminded how Chaudhary won the elecion by a margin of around 21,000 votes. "The Election Commission (EC) is doing injustice to Resham Chaudhary and discriminating against him. We warn the EC to immediately provide the certificate to him in absentia through an agent . Questions will be raised against neutrality of the EC otherwise and there will be agitation," he said.
"Resham Chaudhary is addressed as a fugitive and other terms. A probe commission has already investigated the incident and other incidents of Madhes, and submitted its report. I also urge the government to make the report public," he added.
Chaudhary's wife Ranjita claimed that the police had oppressed Tharu community at the polling booths. "The incident of August 24, 2015 should not have happened. But it happened and even our community has expressed sorrows over that. The government had orchestrated the incident. I still urge for fact-based investigation of the incident," she stated.
"The incident happened two years and seven months ago. The administration allowed mob to identify houses of Tharus before torching them amidst curfew on August 25, 2015. Is that not an attack against Tharu community?" she fumed. "I don't want to go back too far. We were not allowed to enter the place where vote was being counted in Dhangadi after we won the election. The administration does injustice instead of respecting the people's mandate. It searches our houses. Is it not an injustice?" she asked.
Accusing security personnel of wide-spread oppression and bias even during the election campaign, she said the party has not been able to even hold a victory rally.
Speaking during the program, Ram Bahadur Budaiyar, Faguram Chaudhary and others also warned of agitation if Chaudhary were not provided certificate in absentia through an agent.
The police consider Resham Chaudhary to be one of the main accused of the incident in which seven police personnel including an SSP of Nepal Police and a toddler were lynched and has kept him in the most wanted list.
