CPN-UML, which won the highest number of seats in the federal parliament through the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system, is also leading vote counting in the proportional representation (PR) system.
UML has garnered 2,839,055 votes (34 percent) when a total of 8,367,048 votes--over 80 percent of the total votes cast, as per the information received by the Election Commission (EC) by 5:30 Thursday evening. Nepali Congress (NC) is second with 2,753,630 (33 percent) followed by CPN (Maoist Center) with 1,140,048 (13.62 percent) at third.
Similarly, Federal Socialist Forum Nepal (FSFN) is fourth with 405,647 (4.84 percent) crossing the necessary three-percent threshold for national party. Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJP) has also crossed the threshold getting 351,092 (4 percent).
Bibeksheel Sajha Party and RPP, meanwhile, are struggling to cross the threshold securing just two percent of votes each. Naya Shakti Party, Nepal is eighth with 73,488 (0.88 percent) followed by RPP (Democratic) at 70,040 (0.84 percent) and Nepal Workers and Peasants Party 51,705 (0.62 percent).
The rest of the parties together have secured 306,998 votes (4 percent).
