The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC)
on Thursday has rolled back the petroleum price, that was hiked with the elections round the corner, after Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba instructed Supplies Minister Jayant Chand.
The state petroleum monopoly had increased price of petrol, diesel and kerosene oil by Rs 2 per liter
Wednesday midnight as part of its regular price review. The price of cooking gas was also hiked by Rs 25 per cylinder.
"Our party will not take any decision that makes the people suffer from now on," RPP leader Mohan Shrestha told Setopati assuring that the ministry led by his party's minister will not allow people to be harmed. "The price hike done against the policy of party and minister will now be rolled back," he added.
The NOC, meanwhile, is unhappy with the PM's instruction for rollback. NOC sources, talking with Setopati, have called the PM's instruction for rollback unfair pointing that petroleum price was reviewed on the basis of international market price.
