Five people have died in a school bus accident in Pokhara.
On Friday morning, a bus belonging to Kalika English Boarding School, bearing registration number Ga 2 Kha 1417, plunged nearly 200 meters down a slope off the road in Majhthana, Pokhara Metropolitan City-28.
Four students and one local resident died in the accident, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Birendra Paswan, information officer at the District Police Office, Kaski.
According to DSP Paswan, the bus was carrying 19 students, one driver, and a local resident who had hitched a ride.
The local resident who had boarded the bus seeking a lift also died in the accident. He was identified as 65-year-old Baburam Tiwari, a resident of Pokhara-28, DSP Paswan said. He was on his way to seek medical treatment.
The deceased students have been identified as Mamata Tiwari, around 12-13 years old; Ashim Kandel, around 13-14 years old; and two girls, both believed to be around 13-14 years old, who have not yet been identified.
Others injured in the accident were rescued and taken to hospital for treatment, DSP Paswan said.
