A total of 218 applications have been received for vice-chancellor positions at eight universities where the appointment process has begun.
Under the current system, the prime minister serves as the chancellor of universities, while the education minister serves as the pro-chancellor.
The vice-chancellor selection process began after formulating an integrated procedure for the selection and recommendation of vice-chancellors at various universities. However, despite the introduction of the integrated procedure, the selection process is moving forward under the old system.
According to the Ministry of Education, 218 candidates applied after a notice was issued on May 8 calling for applications for vice-chancellor positions at eight universities.
Among them, Tribhuvan University received the highest number of applications, with 50 candidates applying for the vice-chancellor post.
Purbanchal University and Pokhara University each received 38 applications.
The ministry said that Rajarshi Janak University received 27 applications, Far Western University 19, Mid-West University 20, Lumbini Buddhist University 19, and Agriculture and Forestry University 15 applications.
