The BP Highway, which had been blocked by flooding, has reopened after three days. Traffic resumed on Thursday morning after temporary diversions were constructed.
The District Police Office, Kavre, has urged the public to avoid non-essential travel on this route, citing continuing rainfall in the area. The road had been closed since Monday after flooding in the Roshi River triggered by rain caused severe disruption.
Police frequently close the highway for traffic because the temporary diversions – constructed along a four-kilometer stretch of the Roshi region – are easily damaged whenever it rains.
When the highway is blocked, vehicles are held at Dhulikhel and Kavre Bhanjyang on one side, and Mangaltar and Nepalthok in Sindhuli on the other.
Following last year's floods and landslides, which washed away 18 kilometers of road in the Chauki Danda, Roshi, and Nepalthok areas, vehicles have been operating via temporary diversions built directly in the riverbed. Permanent road construction in those sections is currently underway.
