A cybercrime case has been filed against journalist Dil Bhusan Pathak.
Joint Attorney Ramhari Sharma Kafle said that the District Government Attorney's Office, Kathmandu, registered the case against Pathak at the Kathmandu District Court on Monday.
"The case was filed today," Kafle said.
The Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police had submitted its investigation report to the District Government Attorney's Office on Friday (June 27).
The case was filed against Pathak without arresting him.
On June 11, the Cyber Bureau obtained an arrest warrant for Pathak from the Kathmandu District Court for offenses under the Electronic Transactions Act.
Last month, Pathak published a video report on Hilton Hotel and Jaybir Deuba, son of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, on his YouTube channel “Tough Talk with Dil Bhusan Pathak.”
The video, titled “Reality of Hilton Hotel and Jaybir Connection,” was published on May 16.
The Cyber Bureau obtained the arrest warrant following a complaint about the video.
The district court faced criticism for allegedly overstepping its jurisdiction in issuing the arrest warrant.
On June 19, the Patan High Court ordered that Pathak not be arrested. The court stated that since complaints about content published by journalists can be filed with the Press Council, there was no need to investigate Pathak for offenses under the Electronic Transactions Act.
Earlier, on June 16, the Patan High Court had issued a short-term interim order prohibiting Pathak's arrest.
It has not been disclosed who filed the complaint against Pathak. The complainant’s name has been changed in the charge sheet.
