The Kathmandu District Court on Wednesday has issued an arrest warrant against Nepal Police DSP Kumodh Dhungel for involvement in criminal activities.
He was suspended by the Nepal Police headquarters in April after a person arrested in connection of robbery took his name during interrogation. Bikash Shrestha, who was arrested on charge of robbery in Ranibari April 9, claimed that he had met Dhungel on the day of robbery.
Police investigations had showed that Shrestha had multiple phone contacts with Dhungel after the incident.
A group of robbers including Shrestha had robbed cash and materials worth Rs 560,000 from Lalendra Sherchan, his wife Bhanu Devi Sherchan and Mithu Thakali by showing sharp weapons on April 9.
Dhungel is considered a man of integrity and professionalism and an encounter specialist in the police force.
The team led by Dhungel had killed Manoj Pun and Som Ale involved in murder of contractor Sharad Gauchan in what police claimed were armed confrontations.
