A detainee has fled from the Kathmandu District Court while in handcuffs.
The detainee, who was brought to the court for recording his statement on Sunday, escaped while still handcuffed, said Superintendent of Police Apil Raj Bohora of the District Police Range, Kathmandu.
The escapee is 21-year-old Dasharath Shahi, also known as Nirajan Jung Thakuri, from West Rukum.
Police had arrested him on June 3 on theft charges.
After completing the investigation, police had taken him to court for his statement. However, Shahi escaped on the pretext of going to the toilet, SP Bohara said.
According to SP Bohora, Shahi was investigated by the Police Circle at Sohrakhutte.
"He has escaped. We are searching for him," he said.
