The Nepal Army (NA) has sentenced Colonel Keshav Raj Karki for three months for corruption of Rs 4.929 million.
"The military court has concluded that Karki misappropriated government money, violated discipline and did activities unbecoming of his position," NA Spokesperson Brigadier General Bigyan Dev Pandey told Setopati. "He has been sent to jail after NA chief endorsed the court's verdict."
NA had taken chief of Kalisiddhi Battalion in Udayapur Karki in custody on May 6 and formed a military court which found him guilty on May 16. The verdict was endorsed by NA chief three days later and the court issued the verdict on May 24.
"The court has sentenced him for three months in a way that he is not ineligible for government service in the future, and ordered Rs 4.929 million be recovered from him," Pandey added.
"It was revealed that he has not completed works of the President Chure-Tarai Madhes Conservation Development Board worth Rs 167,000 after he was taken into custody and the court has decided to recover even that amount from him. He was not found guilty of misappropriating money of the board," Pandey clarified.
