Former minister of Gandaki province Rajeev Gurung, popularly known as Deepak Manange, has joined the Nepali Congress.
Gurung was inducted into the party by the faction led by outgoing party president Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Gurung joined the party on Monday, according to Deepak Prasad Kuinkel, coordinator of the secretariat coordination committee under the 15th general convention preparation committee.
“He joined the party yesterday and has been appointed as the Manang coordinator,” Kuinkel told Setopati.
Former general secretary Shashank Koirala, coordinator of the 15th general convention preparation committee, appointed Gurung as the party’s coordinator for Manang.
Gurung was elected to the Gandaki Provincial Assembly from Manang twice as an independent candidate.
He later became active in the CPN (Unified Socialist). After that party became part of the Nepali Communist Party, he remained inactive in politics.
On August 13, Gurung had also reached Tribhuvan International Airport to welcome outgoing party president Deuba upon his return to Nepal.
Gurung had previously worked with the Nepal Tarun Dal, the youth wing of the Nepali Congress.
