The Nepali Congress has selected Kamala Panta as the party leader in the National Assembly.
Parliamentary party leader Bhishma Raj Angdembe appointed Panta to the post on Wednesday.
The party statute provides that the parliamentary party leader has the authority to appoint the party leader in the National Assembly.
Panta was appointed after removing Krishna Prasad Sitaula from the position. Sitaula had been appointed as National Assembly party leader when Sher Bahadur Deuba was the parliamentary party leader.
Panta was elected as a member of Parliament from Gorkha in 1994 and 1999. She also served as minister of state for women, children and social welfare.
She is currently a National Assembly member from Gandaki province.
