The Ministry of Home Affairs is set to establish a central command system.
Joint Secretary Ananda Kafle, spokesperson for the ministry, said that the system will be installed within the ministry to enhance effectiveness in maintaining peace, security, and crime control.
According to Kafle, the command system will enable direct, simultaneous communication with all District Administration Offices, District Police Offices, and district-level offices of the Armed Police Force.
The system is being designed to allow instant information exchange and real-time monitoring of important areas and locations, Kafle added.
During a high-level management group meeting held at the ministry on Monday, Home Minister Sudan Gurung directed that the implementation of this system be expedited immediately.
Similarly, a system has been implemented to update the public on the progress of their complaints and registered cases via phone, SMS, and email. Police have already instructed subordinate offices to enforce this provision.
Home Minister Gurung directed the implementation of this system to end the need for citizens to physically visit police offices repeatedly to track the status of their complaints.
During the same meeting, he also instructed that weekly progress reports be submitted to the ministry and that this system be gradually implemented across all agencies under the ministry.
Additionally, efforts will be made to strengthen mechanisms for addressing public grievances related to the performance of the ministry and its subordinate bodies. Office heads will be required to activate complaint-handling systems in all offices for that purpose.
Spokesperson Kafle said that a call center will also be established within the ministry to address public grievances.
The home minister said that he will continuously work to create a conducive work environment for employees and directed the staff to begin working for reforms immediately rather than waiting for tomorrow, Kafle said.
The meeting on Monday was attended by Home Secretary Raj Kumar Shrestha, chiefs of all three security agencies, heads of divisions and departments under the ministry.
