The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has decided to select its parliamentary party leader only after the newly-elected lawmakers are sworn in.
According to party spokesperson Manish Jha, further processes, including the selection of the parliamentary party leader, will move forward only after the new lawmakers take the oath.
The Federal Parliament Secretariat is preparing to administer the oath to newly-elected lawmakers on March 26.
The RSP has decided to proceed with choosing its parliamentary party leader only after that.
The party had gone into the March 5 election by declaring senior leader Balen Shah as its prime ministerial candidate.
However, to appoint Shah as the parliamentary party leader, the RSP will need to amend its party statute.
“The process to select the parliamentary party leader will begin only after the lawmakers take their oath,” spokesperson Jha told Setopati.
He added that the party will proceed strictly according to procedure.
The RSP has secured nearly a two-thirds majority, with 182 lawmakers elected to the House of Representatives, and is set to form a majority government on its own.
