The Nepali Congress has called a meeting of its central committee.
Krishna Prasad Dulal, the party’s acting chief secretary, said that the central committee has been scheduled for Friday, March 20 at 1 p.m. at the party's central office in Sanepa.
Provincial presidents have also been invited to participate in the central committee meeting.
The meeting will review the election results and discuss other matters.
In the House of Representatives election held on March 5, the Nepali Congress won 18 seats under the first-past-the-post (direct) category and 20 seats under the proportional representation category, for a total of 38 seats.
All the party’s office-bearers, including President Gagan Thapa, who contested the election were defeated.
Following the defeat of most of the party's candidates, there have been demands for President Thapa to resign.
During a meeting with Vice-president Bishwa Prakash Sharma, President Thapa expressed his intention to resign from the post, but Sharma advised him not to resign.
There are also demands within the party to fix a date for the regular general convention.
