Birendra Bahadur Basnet has announced that he has left the Gatisheel Loktantrik Party.
Basnet was a central committee member of the party formed after the Gen Z movement of September 8 and 9 last year. He said the current political culture no longer aligns with his personal values.
“The current political culture did not align with my conscience. I realized that within the confines of a position and a party, I cannot make the contribution that my experience, capability, and deep love for the country demand,” he wrote on social media.
“The path ahead will be different, but my dedication to the country remains unchanged. In the coming days, I will focus my time, energy, and skills on analysis, discussion, solutions, and creation. I believe the seeds of sustainable employment and equitable prosperity can be sown through effective management of local and provincial governments, sustainable tourism, business-oriented agriculture, and quality secondary education,” he added.
Basnet also expressed his best wishes for the Gatisheel Loktantrik Party to remain committed to its principles, values, and agenda.
He said that the youth uprising had toppled the old power structure within 24 hours, which gave him a strong belief that the country could truly move in a new direction.
Motivated by that belief, he joined the new political campaign seeking sustainable employment, good governance, and equitable development, eventually becoming a central committee member of the party, Basnet added.
