A jeep used for election campaigning in Salyan has been found carrying rice and alcohol.
Around 9:45 a.m. on Monday, rice, alcohol, and other items were found inside a vehicle bearing the flag of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in Salli Bazar, Bangad Kupinde Municipality-1, according to Police Inspector Devraj Bhattarai of the District Police Office, Salyan.
In the jeep with registration number Karnali Province 02-001 Cha 0429, police found two sacks of rice, 210 bottles of liquor, two cartons of beer, and three cartons of cooking oil, Inspector Bhattarai said.
The police took into custody the driver, 24-year-old Chandra Prakash Budhathoki from Siddhakumakh Rural Municipality-4, and another passenger in the same vehicle, 37-year-old Mohan BC from Bangad-Kupinde Municipality-1.
The driver, Budhathoki, said in his statement that the items belonged to BC, and that he had loaded as BC had asked him to transport them to Khairagar in Bangad Kupinde-5.
Police Inspector Bhattarai said the items were seized on suspicion that they could be distributed targeting the election.
RSP Salyan has not yet issued any official response regarding the incident.
In Salyan, Karnali province general secretary Lalit Kumar Chand is the RSP candidate.
Previously, on Saturday night, police seized a vehicle used in election campaigning for the Nepali Congress, where Rs 449,000 in cash and Nepali Congress campaign pamphlets were recovered.
