The Election Commission has stated that 49 candidates have withdrawn their nominations for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.
The commission’s spokesperson, Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, made public the details of the candidacy withdrawals at a regular press conference held on Friday.
According to the election schedule, the time for withdrawing candidacies was set from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday.
The commission is providing election symbols to the candidates on Friday itself. Independent candidates will receive their election symbols, while party-affiliated candidates will be allotted their respective party symbols.
Nominations under the first-past-the-post system were registered on January 20 for the upcoming election.
According to the commission, a total of 3,487 candidates had filed nomination papers, including 3,090 men, 396 women, and 1 other.
