The Supreme Court (SC) has registered a writ petition filed by former Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba against the decision of the Election Commission.
Leaders including former Acting NC President Purna Bahadur Khadka arrived at the SC Sunday morning to submit the petition. The SC has confirmed that the petition has been registered.
Former NC President Deuba is named as the petitioner. The petition names the Election Commission, NC President Gagan Thapa, and Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma as defendants. The Central Committee elected by the Special General Convention has also been named as a defendant.
The Commission on Friday had granted official recognition to the central committee headed by Gagan Thapa that was elected by the Special General Convention.
The Deuba faction had already announced that they would move the SC against that decision.
