The Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal (JSP-Nepal) and the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party Nepal (LSP-Nepal) reached a 12-point agreement on party unification on Sunday.
Both parties stated that the unification process will move forward based on the joint press statement issued on December 28, when the two parties had agreed to unify.
According to the second point of the agreement, the two parties will merge under the name Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, and the party’s election symbol will remain the umbrella.
The party flag will consist of three colors – red on the top, white in the middle, and green at the bottom – with a tilted umbrella in the center.
The fifth point states that a 43-member central coordination committee will be formed to run the unified Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal. The committee will form an 11-member secretariat from among its members.
According to the sixth point, until the central committees of both parties are fully integrated, the central coordination committee will function as the party’s organizational, operational, directive, and decision-making body.
Organizations and bodies at all levels of both the JSP-Nepal and the LSP-Nepal, including sister organizations, well-wisher organizations, departments, and mechanisms, will function under the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal in accordance with the decisions of the central coordination committee.
The eighth point states that until organizational integration is completed, party organizations and affiliated bodies will continue to operate in their respective areas under the party framework.
As per the agreement, for nominations to the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, nomination papers will be jointly signed by Mahantha Thakur and Upendra Yadav, in line with the decisions of the coordination committee.
The agreement further states that all remaining unification-related procedures will proceed in accordance with the Political Parties Act, 2017 and prevailing laws.
Decisions of the central coordination committee will be authenticated by the party’s patron and chairperson, according to the agreement signed on Sunday.
