More than 49 percent of the general convention representatives have registered their names for the second special general convention of the Nepali Congress.
The registration process for the representatives commenced at 8:15 a.m. on Sunday. According to the organizers, 49.34 percent of the total representatives have already completed their registration at the venue.
There are a total of 4,743 general convention representatives in the Nepali Congress from across the country. The current registration figure of 49.34 percent equates to approximately 2,340 delegates. Separate registration desks have been set up for each of the seven provinces to facilitate a smooth process. Registration is currently in full swing at the stalls located near the main gate of the convention venue at Bhrikuti Mandap.
Representatives are required to submit a valid identification document, one passport-size photograph, and a registration fee of Rs. 1,000 to register their names for the special general convention.
Previously, 54.58 percent of the representatives had signed a petition on October 15, 2025, demanding a special general convention. According to Article 17 (2) of the Nepali Congress statute, if 40 percent of the representatives demand it, the party must call a special general convention within three months.
After the establishment faction refused to heed this demand, General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma, along with the representatives, called a special general convention.
