The government has said it is closely following the recent developments in Venezuela.
The United States took Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro into custody on Saturday and transported him to the US.
Political parties in Nepal had condemned the US action of detaining the head of state of a sovereign country. Protests were also held in Kathmandu against the United States.
Four days after the incident, the Nepal government has called on all parties concerned to exercise maximum restraint and to avoid actions that may further escalate tensions.
“Nepal underscores the importance of fully respecting the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of states, as enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement. “Nepal emphasizes that disputes should be resolved peacefully through dialogue, diplomacy and mutual understanding.”
