The CPN-UML Arghakhanchi district committee has recommended the names of five individuals as candidates for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.
A meeting of the district committee held on Tuesday recommended five individuals, including former party secretary Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, who is currently in jail pending trial in the fake Bhutanese refugees case.
UML central member and Lumbini Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya attended the meeting as the chief guest.
Along with Rayamajhi, the meeting recommended district chair Pitambar Bhusal, Bijula Rayamajhi, Bam Bahadur Bishwakarma, and Bhoj Bahadur Shah as candidates.
Among the nominees, Rayamajhi is a former House of Representatives member, while Bishwakarma is a former central member and Shah is a former member of a central department.
Lila Bahadur BK, the UML district office secretary, said that besides recommending candidates to the center, the meeting also discussed advancing organization strengthening and election preparations effectively.
Although the district committee has recommended his name for the election taking place in two months, former central secretary Rayamajhi has been in prison for more than two and a half years.
He was arrested on May 14, 2023, in connection with the fake Bhutanese refugees case and was sent to judicial custody on June 16 of the same year.
