Chief Minister of Madhesh province Krishna Prasad Yadav has secured a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly.
During the provincial assembly meeting held on Friday, Chief Minister Yadav tabled a motion to obtain a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly in accordance with Article 164 (4) of the Constitution.
All 92 provincial assembly members present at the meeting voted in favor of the motion.
In the 107-member Madhesh Provincial Assembly, the chief minister required 54 votes to secure a vote of confidence.
Deputy Speaker Babita Kumari Raut Ishar informed the provincial assembly that the motion tabled by Chief Minister Yadav seeking a vote of confidence had been passed by a majority.
Not only all the ruling parties, but also parties including the main opposition CPN-UML voted in favor of Yadav.
After the chief minister secured the vote of confidence, the provincial assembly meeting was adjourned until 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Yadav, who is the leader of the Nepali Congress parliamentary party, was appointed chief minister on December 5 with the support of a six-party alliance.
He took the oath of office and secrecy on December 7. On the occasion, he also administered the oath to three ministers from the Nepali Congress, Janamat Party, and CPN (Unified Socialist).
On December 15, Chief Minister Yadav also included the CPN (Maoist Center) and the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party in his government. At present, his Cabinet has six members, while six ministries are yet to be fully constituted.
