The candidacy of Pasang Sherpa, who had filed for the post of central committee member at the 11th general convention of the CPN-UML, has been canceled.
Sherpa was earlier arrested in a polygamy case. He was released after paying an amount in lieu of imprisonment.
The court had sentenced him to one year in prison and a fine of Rs 5,000. He was arrested by the police on November 4.
He was released after paying a total of Rs 109,500 at the rate of Rs 300 per day in lieu of imprisonment.
Sherpa had filed his candidacy for the post of central committee member at the UML general convention, but the party’s election commission canceled his candidacy, stating that it did not meet the prescribed criteria.
He was a central committee member during the party’s 10th general convention.
