Buddha Air promoter Birendra Bahadur Basnet has launched a new political party.
Basnet registered the party, named Gatisheel Loktrantrik Party, with the Election Commission on Thursday.
Dinesh Prasai has been appointed as the party's chairman, while Basnet is only a member. Piyush Kayastha is the general secretary.
The party's manifesto states that party office-bearers will not be allowed to contest elections, which is why Basnet has been made only a member, according to a source close to him.
The Election Commission also allotted lamp flame as the election symbol to the party on Thursday.
The manifesto clearly outlines the need for Gatisheel Loktantrik Party.
"The first right of every Nepali is employment—and sustainable employment at that. This is the government's foremost duty. The government's full responsibility is to foster development, investment, state management, and create sustainable employment opportunities for citizens. It is to create an environment where every citizen is engaged in creative and constructive work. Only then will society and the nation become dynamic. Prosperity, peace, and law and order will be established in the nation. Therefore, we, concerned citizens worried about Nepal's future, have concluded that a party must be formed for its solution," the manifesto states.
The party also emphasizes that power is not a tool for exploitation of the state.
"The concept of one position, one person will be enforced from the outset in the party and government. Even if someone serves as a minister or prime minister for a short term, they will not be allowed to represent more than twice. In other words, after two terms, they must return to their regular social life. If they lose an election, they will not be allowed to contest again," the manifesto reads.
The manifesto presented by the party also lists some provisions it has set forth.
1. No party member can hold the same position for more than two terms.
2. After serving 16 years in any party committee, a person will not be eligible for any position in any party committee.
3. Party committee office-bearers and those running for public positions will be separate.
4. No one may serve more than two terms in public positions such as minister or prime minister.
5. All party activities will be monitored through open software.
6. Except for the nearest upcoming elections, candidates for future elections will be selected starting from the local level with everyone's participation.
7. The party will have conscious, diligent, and inclusive leadership at all levels.
