The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has announced Lekhjung Thapa as its candidate for Rupandehi Constituency No. 3.
Organizing a press conference at the party office on Sunday, RSP Vice-president Dol Prasad Aryal announced Thapa's candidacy for the by-election in Rupandehi-3.
The RSP said that it selected the candidate through a primary election.
Thapa was chosen from among nine aspirants for the candidacy.
Thapa, who hails from Bhairahawa, is a senior neurologist, activist, and social figure. He has spent over 16 years in the development of Nepali neuroscience and the treatment of patients.
Thapa completed his MBBS from Manipal College of Medical Sciences in Pokhara, MD in internal medicine from BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan, and DM in neurology from College of Medical Sciences in Chitwan. He is a graduate of “Safety Quality Leadership and Informatics” from Harvard University in the USA.
He has published more than 80 research papers in national and international journals.
Thapa, who is also the founding chairman of the Nepal Stroke Association, has contributed to the treatment, diagnosis, and awareness of stroke.
The national stroke treatment management protocol, developed on the initiative of his team, was also issued a few days ago. It has been approved by the Ministry of Health and Population.
The Election Commission has announced by-elections in Rupandehi-3 and Manang on November 3.
