The Federal Parliament Secretariat has published a notice regarding the election for the chairperson of the House of Representatives’ State Affairs and Good Governance Committee.
The notice, issued by the General Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat, Padma Prasad Pandeya, states that Speaker Devraj Ghimire has scheduled the election for Wednesday, August 27.
The position of chairperson became vacant after Nepali Congress lawmaker Ramhari Khatiwada resigned, taking moral responsibility for errors related to the cooling-off period provision in the Federal Civil Service Bill.
According to the House of Representatives Regulations, a chairperson’s position that has fallen vacant must be filled within 15 days.
Since the State Affairs Committee has been allocated to the Nepali Congress based on an agreement between parties, no other party has staked a claim for the chairman's post.
Dilendra Badu and Ambika Basnet from the Nepali Congress are being discussed as potential candidates for the committee chairperson.
