The Education, Health, and Information Technology Committee of the House of Representatives has passed the School Education Bill.
The committee’s meeting held on Thursday passed the bill by a majority.
Lawmakers from the main opposition CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Swatantra Party, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party registered notes of dissent on the bill.
The Maoist Center dissented, stating that public officeholders should be required to enroll their children in government schools.
Although discussions on the School Education Bill have been ongoing for a long time, one issue remained unresolved.
This issue pertained to scholarships provided by residential private schools.
The bill includes a provision requiring residential private schools to provide three percent scholarships.
From the Maoist Center, lawmakers Devendra Paudel, Rekha Sharma, Mahindra Raya Yadav, and Gyanu Basnet Subedi registered dissent on the bill.
