The ruling CPN-UML has also objected to the Political Party Self-evaluation Procedure introduced by the Election Commission.
The UML says that self-evaluation is an internal matter of political parties and that the Election Commission is attempting to interfere in it.
The Commission had urged political parties and stakeholders to provide suggestions on the Political Party Self-evaluation Procedure by Thursday.
"Self-evaluation is an internal matter of political parties. Articles 269 to 272 under Part 29 of the Constitution of Nepal outline provisions related to political parties. The formation, registration, and operation of political parties are meant to align with the aspirations of the people while respecting the autonomy and independence of the parties. Therefore, they should operate under self-regulation, and their evaluation should be done by the people through their mandate, making self-regulation an internal matter of parties," said Niraj Acharya, the UML's central election chief.
He stated that, since the self-evaluation procedure is an internal matter of political parties in principle, the UML disagrees with the Political Party Self-evaluation Procedure.
Earlier, opposition parties also opposed the procedure introduced by the Election Commission. At a joint meeting called by Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Wednesday, the chairman of the main opposition CPN (Maoist Center), on Wednesday, opposition parties including the Maoist Center, Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, and Janamat Party opposed the procedure, stating that it was against he Constitution.
