Bamdev Gautam will hold the third position in the CPN (Unified Socialist) party hierarchy.
Following the signing of the party unification agreement between the Gautam-led CPN Ekata Rastriya Abhiyan and the Unified Socialist on Friday morning at Aloknagar, an agreement was also reached regarding Gautam's rank, said Unified Socialist Vice-chairman Gangalal Tuladhar.
According to Tuladhar, Gautam has been given the responsibility of senior leader in the Unified Socialist. Currently, Ghanendra Basnet, Beduram Bhusal, and Pramesh Hamal are senior leaders in the party.
"The first position is held by Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, the second by respected leader Jhala Nath Khanal. It has been agreed that Bamdev Gautam will be a senior leader in the third position," Tuladhar said.
According to Tuladhar, Beduram Bhusal will be ranked below Gautam in the hierarchy, followed by Pramesh Hamal, Ghanendra Basnet, and Rajendra Pandey. Pandey is the party’s senior vice-chairman.
Tuladhar said that the responsibilities of the remaining leaders will be made public during the event scheduled to announce the unification of the two parties.
The unification ceremony has been scheduled for July 18.
Prakash Jwala, head of the publicity department of the Unified Socialist, also confirmed that Gautam has been agreed upon as the third most senior leader.
"His position has been fixed after the chairman and the respected leader," Jwala said.
Vice-chairman Tuladhar clarified that since Gautam’s party is merging into the Unified Socialist, the party’s name will not change after unification.
"He has joined the Unified Socialist agreeing to its ideology, agenda, and policies. Therefore, there is no need to change the party’s name or agenda," Tuladhar said.
