The Election Commission has decided to hold a by-election in Rupandehi-3 on November 3.
Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari said that it has been decided to conduct a by-election in Rupandehi-3 on November 3.
According to Bhandari, no final decision has been made regarding the provincial assembly by-election in Manang (2), Bhandari said. Bhandari said that the by-election there remains uncertain as the court has not issued an official ruling regarding it. The seat of Rajeev Gurung (Deepak Manange), who was elected from the constituency, was declared vacant by the court.
On June 20, Election Commission officials met with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to discuss holding the by-elections for the House of Representatives in Rupandehi-3 and the provincial assembly in Manang (2) in the fourth week of October.
The Rupandehi-3 constituency comprises 13 wards of Siddhartha Municipality, 6 wards of Butwal Sub-metropolitan City, 6 wards of Siyari Rural Municipality, and 4 wards of Tilottama Municipality. This constituency stretches north-south from the Sunauli border to the East-West Highway.
The seat in Rupandehi-3 fell vacant following the death of lawmaker Deepak Bohara, elected from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), on April 1.
Bohara had not regained his voice after contracting COVID. He defeated the then-home minister Bal Krishna Khand without even delivering speeches during the election.
