Manju Khand, a House of Representatives member from the Nepali Congress, has been picked as the coordinator of the sub-committee studying the construction of Gautam Buddha International Airport, also known as Bhairahawa Airport.
Previously, CPN-UML lawmaker Yogesh Bhattarai was the coordinator of the sub-committee.
Bhattarai had informed the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting held on May 4 that he would not continue as the coordinator of the sub-committee.
Following this, NC lawmaker Khand was selected as the new coordinator from among the sub-committee members on Sunday.
The sub-committee’s meeting on Sunday also decided to conduct an inspection visit to Bhairahawa Airport.
Earlier, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Manish Jha had raised questions after lawmaker Bhattarai, a former minister for culture, tourism, and civil aviation, was made the coordinator of the sub-committee.
During a PAC meeting, Jha had argued that questions could be raised about the sub-committee’s report if Bhattarai, a former minister, headed the sub-committee. Bhattarai had then informed the PAC meeting that he would not remain in the sub-committee as questions had been raised over his leadership.
However, UML lawmaker Bhattarai and RSP lawmaker Jha were both absent in the meeting held to pick the sub-committee’s new coordinator.
