A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against outgoing Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari.
Advocate Nabin Dhital filed the petition, naming Adhikari as a defendant. The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Finance, the governor appointment recommendation committee, the committee’s secretariat, committee member Bishwa Nath Paudel, and Nepal Rastra Bank are the other defendants named in the petition.
The case is scheduled to be heard by a bench of Justice Binod Sharma on Tuesday.
The petition challenges Adhikari’s appointment to the committee while he was still in office as governor.
Adhikari retired on April 6 after completing his five-year term as governor. However, the committee in question was formed before his retirement.
Former governor Bijay Nath Bhattarai earlier resigned from the committee, expressing dissatisfaction over its inability to convene meetings. Following his resignation, Adhikari was appointed to the committee.
The government has yet to appoint a new governor to succeed Adhikari.
