The KP Sharma Oli government has doled out Rs 13.90 million for treatment expenses to ascent of Mt Everest in three months.
The government formed on February 15 has doled out the amount to different leaders, staffers, institutions and individuals through Cabinet decisions by mid-May, according to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
The Cabinet meeting on March 26 had decided to give Rs 500,000 each for treatment of Under Secretary Chitrangad Baral, and assistant accountant Gopal Shrestha. Another Cabinet decision two days later decided to give Rs 500,000 each for treatment of woman development inspector deployed in Jumla Bindu Kunwar and non-gazetted second class officer (kharidar) Girija Prasad Banjara.
The Cabinet meeting on April 4 then decided to provide additional financial assistance to Daya Ram Pokharel of the General Administration Ministry but the amount was not disclosed. The Cabinet meeting 13 days later then decided to give Rs 500,000 for treatment of accountant Lanka Narayan Shrestha.
The government can provide up to Rs 500,000 to government employees suffering from serious illness on recommendation of the General Administration Ministry.
The Cabinet meeting on March 21 decided to give Rs 4 million at Rs 800,000 each to a team of five journalists including Rosha Basnet, Laxmi Karki, Kalpana Maharjan, Rojita Buddhacharya and Deurali Chamling to climb Mt Everest.
The government had also decided to Provide Rs 1.50 million each for treatment of Nepali Congress leader Khum Bahadur Khadka and the then UML leader Jagrit Prasad Bhetwal. Both the leaders have passed away since.
The Cabinet has also decided to reimburse the expenses incurred by RJP leader Mahantha Thakur in India on the basis of invoices.
The government has also provided Rs 700,000 for treatment of Dhruva Ghimire of Bharatpur-11, Rs 1 million to Lava Pradhan (Mitra) of Biratnagar, and Rs 700,000 to Bishweshwora Dahal.
It has also given Rs 2 million to Baidyanath Dham of Achham for upgradation of Ved Bidyashram.
