Journalist Dil Bhusan Pathak has been acquitted.
On Wednesday, a bench of Judge Khimananda Bhusal at the Kathmandu District Court acquitted Pathak, ruling that the claims against him could not be sustained, according to the court’s information officer Deepak Kumar Shrestha.
The Cyber Bureau had filed a case against him under Section 47 of the Electronic Transactions Act, 2006.
The charges stemmed from a broadcast on his YouTube channel, “Tough Talk with Dil Bhusan Pathak,” where he claimed that Jaybir Deuba, son of then-prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, had investments in Hilton Hotel.
After the video was broadcast on Pathak’s Youtube channel, Jaybir filed a complaint with the Cyber Bureau. The case was subsequently filed at the Kathmandu District Court on June 20 last year.
The Kathmandu District Court has now ruled that the prosecution's claims were insufficient.
Previously, during the preliminary bail hearing, the court had ordered Pathak’s release on a bail of Rs 25,000.
