Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli has said relationship with India has been improved to a level at which another blockade will not be imposed.
"I was PM then. There was blockade and I said I will not go to India if the blockade were not removed. I went to India only after getting the blockade lifted," PM Oli said briefing the House of Representatives (HoR) about the two-day visit of Indian PM Narendra Modi on Sunday. "Such tense relationship has been improved to a state where another blockade will not be imposed."
He pointed that there is no meaning in getting stuck in the past problems. Giving the example of North Korea and South Korea, and the upcoming meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and American President Donald Trump, he pointed that there is no alternative to improving the relation.
"Many don't understand the significance of one-on-one meeting and dialogue for big exchanges. Some issues are such which can't be resolved through a collective dialogue. They can be resolved only through repeated one-on-one meetings," he argued.
He claimed that comments of Modi also show that Nepal-India relation will now move in a new manner. "Indian PM Modi has said India will not express concern if Nepal moves ahead prioritizing sovereignty, territorial integrity, and needs," he stated. "This is the starting point of new relationship."
He reminded how he had said there was no need to be happy about the frosty relationship, and that has to be improved even when he first went to India three years back.
Indian PM Modi addressing the civic reception accorded by Kathmandu Metropolitan City on Saturday had stated twice that India is ready to support Nepal to move forward in accordance to its priorities and needs.
Oli also thanked for the alertness displayed at the level of citizens during the visit of Modi.
He also revealed that he will soon visit India.
