Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli has had serious discussions with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on issues like agriculture, waterways, additional air routes for Nepal and demonetization in India.
“India will soon send a team of technicians for feasibility study of waterways,” Oli stated addressing a joint press conference after a one-on-one meeting with Modi at Dwarika’s Hotel Friday night. “I have also raised the issue of demonetized Indian currency notes with Nepali banks and additional air routes for Nepal.”
He revealed that he also talked about the rising trade deficit with India, and added that the two leaders have reached an understanding to deploy a task force to resolve the problems of flood victims.
He also opined that Nepal-India relationship should not be affected by petty issues, and the relationship should be maintained on the basis of equality. He pointed that the two countries are sovereign states and also inter-dependent.
Addressing the press conference Modi said India is ready to support Oli’s plan of connecting Nepal with the sea. “We had some understanding on railway, waterway and agriculture during the India visit of PM Oli last month. I am glad that officials of the two countries have made much progress on those issues,” he stated. “Feasibility study of Raxaul-Kathmandu railway will be done soon.”
He said the two leaders also discussed about Pancheshwore and cooperation in other projects in the energy sector.
He opined that his campaign of ‘Collective Efforts, Inclusive Growth’ and ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’ of Oli complement each other.
