The Department of Transport Management has banned entry of big trucks into Kathmandu through Nagdhunga effective from Sunday.
Entry of trucks with 10 wheels or more has been banned from Sunday for six days. Such vehicles will be stopped at Narayangarh, according to the department. Essential food grains, clothes, medicines and vegetables, however, will not be stopped.
The department says the decision has been taken to ease travel of people during the Dashain festival.
Tens of thousands passengers are being stuck in traffic gridlock in the Naubise-Nagdhunga section of the Prithvi Highway while coming to Kathmandu in the past one week mostly due to a large number of trucks.
