Chief Commissioner of the National Information Commission (NIC) Krishna Hari Banskota has underscored the significant role the right to information has in strengthening the state system, corruption control and the economic prosperity of the country.
Addressing a news conference organized by the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Morang district chapter here Wednesday, he said the credibility of the media would be enhanced if the journalists informed the public by using valid documents. He added that this would also burnish Nepali media's image in the world.
The NIC chief commissioner stated that NIC would reprimand the office if it takes action against its employee for providing information on any issue of public concern, and it would also make provision for providing compensation to that employee.
He also shared that the NIC has been giving away the cash prize of Rs 30,000 to five journalists using the maximum number of right to information every year.
FNJ Morang district chapter president Bandhu Pokharel said the FNJ was working together with the NIC for informing the public.
