Long queues of consumers have formed at Sifal in Kathmandu to obtain cooking gas.
Consumers have been lining up since early Monday morning. So far, around 500 gas cylinders have been placed in the queue.
Consumers said that they had started queuing as early as 4-5 a.m.
Gas distribution began after a truck carrying LPG cylinders arrived at noon.
At Sifal, consumers have also been allowed to exchange cylinders from any gas company without paying additional charges.
The Nepal LP Gas Industry Association began distributing cooking gas at six locations across Kathmandu on Sunday. The distribution initiative was launched ahead of Dashain to prevent a shortage of cooking gas during the festival. The association said that the arrangement would remain in effect until Phulpati, the seventh day of Dashain.
Gas is being distributed from Shree Krishna Gas Industry in Kalanki, Nepal Gas Industry in Balaju,
the Sagar Gas warehouse in Pepsi Cola, Baba Gas depot in Sukedhara, Everest and Sugam Gas distribution centers in Sifal, and Shriram Gas warehouse in Harisiddhi, Lalitpur.
Gas distribution hours have been set from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. However, distribution at Sifal did not begin until after noon on Monday.
The arrangement has been implemented in coordination with the Nepal Oil Corporation and in cooperation with the Gas Dealers Federation.
Although consumers have been told that they can exchange cylinders from any gas company, complaints have emerged that some companies are accepting only cylinders bearing their own brand.
