Jamara has been planted at the Dashain Ghar inside Hanuman Dhoka Palace in Kathmandu to mark the beginning of the Dashain festival.
The ritual was performed according to Vedic traditions at an auspicious time on Sunday morning, the day of Ghatasthapana.
Following the ceremonial planting of jamara at the Dashain Ghar, Nawaratri worship begins at shrines dedicated to the nine forms of Goddess Durga, including Mahakali, Mahalaxmi, and Mahasaraswati, as well as at other sacred Shakti Peeths.
With jamara planted at the Dashain Ghar, households across the country are also observing Ghatasthapana on Sunday by ritually installing an oil lamp, a sacred water vessel (kalash), and an image or symbol of Lord Ganesh, following Vedic traditions.
On the day of Bijaya Dashami, devotees receive the blessing and prasad of Goddess Durga, anointed with the water from the holy kalash installed on Ghatasthapana.
